Koii Scales AI & Web3 Infrastructure with Latitude.sh
At Latitude.sh, we take pride in partnering with innovative companies that are pushing the boundaries of technology. One such partner is Koii, an AI & Web3 company dedicated to achieving decentralized computing.
Their CTO, Syed Ghazanfer, recently shared how Latitude.sh has been instrumental in helping Koii scale its infrastructure while managing costs and improving performance.
The Challenge: Rising Costs on AWS
Koii’s journey began on AWS, where they initially hosted their infrastructure. However, as their network grew and they forked Solana to create their own blockchain, K2, the costs began to skyrocket. Syed explained, “As the network increased, we started to see a huge amount of AWS bills because of the bandwidth, with a lot of egress and ingress being charged, and the total cost just skyrocketed.”
The need to run more validators and RPCs to support their growing user base made it clear that AWS was no longer a sustainable option. “At that moment, we decided, ok, we need to move over to some bare metal provider,” Syed said.
Why Latitude.sh?
Koii chose Latitude.sh for its user-friendly interface and seamless provisioning process. Syed highlighted, “The UI interface and all those features are like nothing we had ever experienced in other bare metal providers.”
“But in terms of Latitude, all the services, even the simpler things, like the provisioning of instances and doing day-to-day operations, it's much, much simpler and easier.”
The migration to Latitude.sh was a gradual process, as Koii’s network was live and couldn’t be transitioned all at once. “We gradually started provisioning instances on Latitude and then started moving validator by validator. Initially, we only moved the RPCs over to Latitude. Then, we stopped the validators on AWS and moved most of them to Latitude,” Syed explained.
Improved Performance and Cost Efficiency
The move to Latitude.sh not only reduced total compute costs by 20% but also improved performance. Syed noted, “The performance was improved, just because on AWS, we were provisioning what we would say medium-level resources. On Latitude, we had much more cost-effective options. So we were able to choose bigger instances, which definitely increased the overall performance.”
Koii’s validators require significant resources, with each validator needing 256 GB of RAM and at least a 24-core CPU, and RPC nodes demanding even higher specs. Latitude.sh’s bare metal solutions provided the scalability and power Koii needed to support its growing network.
Koii’s Vision: Decentralized Computing
Koii's mission is not just to build a network but to democratize the core infrastructure of AI by transforming everyday personal computers into a global, community-owned supercomputer. Instead of requiring expensive hardware or special permissions, Koii's innovative approach empowers individuals to run tasks directly from their existing devices.
As AI continues to shape the future, the question arises: will the world continue on outdated cloud computing practices, or shift to earning from every computation through a decentralized model? “The vision is to empower individuals to own and direct the future of AI, where personal devices contribute meaningfully to a global supercomputer—putting the power back into the hands of the people," Syed shared.
After facing scalability issues with their initial blockchain, Koii forked Solana in 2021 to create K2, their own layer-one solution, and introduced their native cryptocurrency, $KOII.
As more partners joined to run validators, the demand for robust, cost-effective infrastructure grew—leading them to Latitude.sh.
A Partnership Built for the Future
Latitude.sh is proud to support Koii in its mission to revolutionize decentralized computing. By providing scalable, high-performance bare metal solutions, we’ve helped Koii reduce costs, improve performance, and focus on building the future of Web3 & AI.
As Syed put it, “Latitude has made it much simpler and easier to manage our infrastructure.” We’re committed to continuing this partnership, addressing challenges, and ensuring Koii has the tools it needs to succeed.
If you’re looking for a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective infrastructure solution for your Web3 project, Latitude.sh is here to help. Let’s build the future together.
